Kewanna Food Pantry to be Honored During Fall Festival Parade

The Kewanna Fall Festival continues today and tomorrow, with plenty of performances, contests, carnival rides, and food. “We have 20 food vendors; they’re all different,” says festival committee chair Tom Mate. “We have a lot of arts and crafts vendors; I think there’s 60 total. We’ve got the Mush Ball Tournament. We have the 5K race. We have the garden tractor pull. I think there’s 53 events taking place all weekend long.”

The festival parade steps off this afternoon at 1:00. This year’s grand marshal is the Kewanna Food Pantry. “Our parade is a tribute to hometown heroes, and that’s one of the things we try to educate the kids to know that there’s heroes in their town,” Mate says. “They don’t have to look to TV to find the heroes. We’ve honored the police and the fire and the military and the business people and the farmers because they’re heroes, too. This year, we honoring the food pantry. Without them, there would be a lot of people really hurting.”

The Kewanna Fall Festival continues today until 11:00 p.m. It returns tomorrow, with festivities scheduled until 5:00 p.m.
