Weedling Status Hearing Provides Update Prior to September Jury Trial

WeedlingThe jury trial in the case of Shane Weedling is still on schedule following a status hearing Thursday in Marshall County Superior Court 1.

Weedling is heading to trial following his arrest in September of 2015. He is accused of beating 2-year-old Serenity Wilson to death for wetting the bed, according to investigators. An outpouring of community support was seen for the toddler after receiving 27 hours of intensive medical care. She was eventually pronounced dead of blunt force trauma.

Weedling is facing charges of Murder, Aggravated Battery, Neglect of a Dependent Resulting in Death, and Possession of Marijuana in the Case.

Thursday’s status hearing was largely scheduled to ensure adequate progress prior to a jury trial in September. The Superior Court says that’s still on track. One more status hearing is scheduled prior to that court date.

Serenity Wilson’s mother, Krysti Lavanway, was sentenced in December to 35 years in prison on charges of Neglect of a Dependent Resulting in Death for failing to obtain proper medical treatment for the child following the allegedly incident.

If convicted of the charges, Weedling may be facing decades in prison.

The jury trial is scheduled to begin on September 27th at 9:00 a.m.
